As I continue to progress in my practice, I have run into a fair amount of difficulties with this piece. I have realized very quickly that with the time frame I have been given, I did not set realistic expectations for myself. I thought that I would be able to do the strumming pattern close to the speed of the actual song, but I have not had a ton of luck. This is because I am still struggling with chord transitions. I am specifically struggling with the chord of G. This one requires 3 fingers, while Am and C only require 1. I think that because I am such a beginner, I should have predicted this challenge and anticipated it, and countered that struggle when thinking of a reasonable goal/expectation for myself. So, I have made some personal adjustments to aid my learning process. I have decided that for now, until I have more practice under my belt, I will start by just doing the single strums while singing. This way, I can practice the chord changes as well as the tempo/speed, without having to worry about the strumming patterns yet.
In my next blog, I will include my videos of progress, including strumming and singing.
